Surfside Bungalows

ACTIVITIES

SURFSIDE BUNGALOWS is situated on the flanks of the mountains that rise toward upper Matapalo.  We're 200 meters from the beach, steps away from a trails up into the jungle, near surf breaks, waterfalls, and miles of coastline.  Matapalo is a self-guiding tropical Mecca, unparalleled in the accessibility of nature and activity right there.

SURFSIDE BUNGALOWS boasts proudly of its nearby access to world-class surf.  We are situated nearest to the Matapalo break but are also close to Backwash and only a ten minute walk from Pan Dulce.

While a whole wealth of opportunities are present within walking distance in Matapalo, visitors expecting to spend a week or more are likely best served with a rental car, which will put Carate, Jimenez, Dos Brazos, and Drake all within reasonable reach.  Since a rental car is the best way to get around Costa Rica for those that can factor it into the budget, it should not be given second shrift in travel planning.

In addition to the many self-guiding options in Matapalo, there are an even greater variety of extraordinary guided activities, particularly if a rental car makes departure points less daunting.   A full list of guided activities is given at www.tourosa.com.  A few activities are summarized in the blurbs below.

Beach and Swimming.  The Playa Platanares beach, just ten miles from Puerto Jimenez, is the nicest swimming beach on the entire peninsula and is a must-do activity for anyone needing some beach time.  There is a great little restaurant and bar there and plenty of shade as well as sun and waves that are great for body surfing and miles of sand beaches for beachcoming.
