SURFSIDE BUNGALOWS is located in
Cape Matapalo on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica's Southern Zone.
Other than surfers boating across the Gulf from Pavones on a private
boat, Puerto Jimenez is the final waystation for everyone else, and
there are a zillion ways to get there.
By car, turn off of the
Panamerican Highway at Chacarita Junction and drive to Puerto Jimenez,
79 km distant. Continue 18 km to the Matapalo turnoff to the left.
From the turnoff Surfside Bungalows is located exactly 1.5 km past the
'guard house', where you turn right to enter Matapalo.
Commercial air service between
San Jose and Puerto Jimenez is provided by both domestic airlines,
Natureair and
Sansa, which fly out of the Pavas
and Juan Santamaria airports respectively, making the former more
convenient to people on the ground and the latter more convenient to
travelers in transit. From December through April, the two
airlines offer up to eight round trip flights daily all day long.
In the green season, the afternoon flights are shelved. In
addition to commercial flights, Alfa Romeo Air Charter Services is a Puerto Jimenez based air
charter service to and from all national airports.
There are six daily fast boats
that travel round trip between Puerto Jimenez and Golfito daily, and one
large slow boat.
There is daily bus service to
Jimenez from all points and shuttle bus service on certain dates,
according to demand.
From Puerto Jimenez, taxi
service to Surfside is $30. Twice daily public transport is
available in either direction, and hitch-hiking is commonplace and
accepted here.
Solid Rental cars
are available locally out of Puerto Jimenez and can be either picked up
or dropped off in San Jose or a number of other Southern Zone
destinations.
